Warhammer 40k - Hellforged Leviathan Dreadnought

This fan art piece was inspired by one of my favourite Warhammer 40K factions, the Death Guard. My goal was to find a balance between the stylised, hand-painted qualities of a miniature and the material definition, scale, and surface variation expected from a more realistic asset.

The Dreadnought was textured entirely in Substance Painter using bespoke texture maps as a deliberate exercise in combining realistic surface definition with the hand-painted stylisation of tabletop miniatures. This approach gave me close control over material transitions, wear, colour variation, and the overall surface treatment, while also serving as a valuable smart material study. In a future project, I plan to take some of those same goals into Unreal Engine’s material layering system and explore a more modular approach.
